The Studio Symphony Orchestra is a recognised leader in amateur music making in Northern Ireland, attracting skilled musicians from across the country and performing regular public concerts in a number of local venues. The orchestra is professionally directed by members of the Ulster Orchestra and performs to a very high standard.
The orchestra works regularly with the most talented young local musicians, providing them the opportunity to give concerto performances and gain valuable experience. It specialises in staging large scale works which deserve to be heard live but which are rarely staged professionally due to the costs involved. BBC Radio 3 - Play to the Nation
The orchestra recently broadcast on BBC Radio 3 for the first time! The 'Play to the Nation' season showcased amateur orchestras from across the UK, and the SSO performed the third movement of Rimsky-Korsakov's Sheherazade which was recorded at our Havelock Nelson Concert in the Whitla Hall, Belfast, in April 2008.
