The Studio Symphony Orchestra is a recognised leader in amateur music making in Northern Ireland, attracting skilled musicians from across the country and performing regular public concerts in a number of local venues. The orchestra is professionally directed by members of the Ulster Orchestra and performs to a very high standard.
The orchestra works regularly with the most talented young local musicians, providing them the opportunity to give concerto performances and gain valuable experience. It specialises in staging large scale works which deserve to be heard live but which are rarely staged professionally due to the costs involved. Browse our archive to find many examples of past performances.
We look forward to welcoming old friends and new audiences to our performances in this special 70th Anniversary year.

Latest 70th Birthday Greetings:
5 Mar 2017 - Carol McEvoy, Former Member
Just want to thank SSO for including me in a fabulous 28 years of making music, including 45 symphonies, 40 concerti, and over 100 incidental pieces. What a blast!
Yes, who could forget the IDB Variations and its flamboyant composer.
Wishing SSO the very best of birthdays. xx
17 Nov 2016 - Terry de Winne
Happy birthday! Anybody remember "Variations and Musical Quotations on the theme of IDB TV Jingle 'Come on, Northern Ireland, come on!' for Mezzo Soprano, optional Choir or Audience Participation (you'll be lucky!), solo Lambeg Drum, solo Bodhran, optional Organ and Symphony Orchstra" Dished up by (the late lamented) D. F. Bell (1985)?
[Yes Terry, we performed this piece FIVE times! It was included in a Belfast Proms concert on 13th June 1987 with Nicholas Cleobury conducting (goodness knows what he made of it!) and it featured in a series of Community Concerts we gave in 1997, in places including Fivemiletown and Bushmills. Thanks for sharing!]
Send us a Birthday Greeting!
